a unique class of heterocyclic compounds by virtue of their 1, 3-
dipolar character, the parent molecule being 3-hydroxy pyridine. These fall in the class of 6-membered aromatic betaines,
a (4n)7t-1,3-dipolar system. It was found"* that the reactivity of
such compounds increased with a gradual change of the substituent
H on the nitrogen from a methyl to a pyrimidine group
